Bucky's Family Restaurant Columbia, TN |
I have driven by this alluring old sign many times before, and my daughter and I finally stopped in to give it a try for breakfast. Great meal of biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon and the ambience was exactly what I'd hoped it would be. Lots of locals and old timers who were obviously regulars discussing work, politics, religion, and most of all University of Tennessee Football. Place is nothing fancy inside, but perfectly clean. Lots of paneling. An old picture of Bucky Foster, the original propietor, hangs behind the checkout counter, along with photos of country music singers who have visited. The restrooms are located in a narrow hallway that joins to kitchen to the dining area, so I suggest gently cracking that bathroom door open on your way out, lest be smashed into by the dishes cart that runs back and forth down the hallway. This almost happened to me, but I think it adds to the charm of the place.
Bucky's is a down home place and when you step inside, it feels like you've stepped 30-40 years into the past. I'll definitely be back for breakfast again.
Hey Matt! I love the new blog! Stuff like this is so cool, and I think it's awesome that you're taking time to chronicle your visits to these places. I'm a sucker for nostalgia, traditions, "the way it used to be", etc. Thanks for letting me know about this! :)
